Just Imagine (Matthew 12:36-37)

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin’ for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Livin’ life in peace

Imagine-Lyrics and Music by John Lennon.

Yes, just imagine. I was listening to a performing group sing this song. The occasion was to support the Ukrainian people as they defended themselves against Russia. It was a noble gesture and the appreciative audience responded with a rousing ovation at the end. However, I was uncomfortable. The organizers of the event were Christian and I was dismayed they chose this song.

A Christian cannot sing a popular song that proclaims peace and harmony while ignoring the message that also dismisses God. We cannot play church. If one claims to be a Christian, one must take a definite stand for God. It does not mean compromising our beliefs and faith simply to support a worthy cause. Just imagine singing this song in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

Matthew 12:36-37 (NLT)

Jesus spoke these words to the Pharisees who were attributing His miracles to the power of Satan, warning them of the grave consequences of their words. Do not be condemned by the words you speak. One does not have to imagine it.

Every word matters.

Amen.

Love and trust in the Lord; seek His will in your life.
