The young man tenderly cradled the head of his girlfriend in his arms. She was dying from cancer and they only had a short time left together.
“I love you.” Tears welled in his eyes.
She looked up at him and then burst into uncontrollable laughter. A fly had landed on his nose!
It was a blooper reel!
Many movies and television shows include blooper reels as an extra bonus, with selected scenes added during the ending credits. It shows a lighter side of the production as the snafus ruin an otherwise perfect scene. Even professionals can make mistakes!
Sometimes I wonder if our lives are a blooper reel. We attempt to live perfect lives, yet, things inevitably go wrong. Financial hardships. Family illness and death. Broken relationships. Yet, unlike the bloopers, we cannot laugh or brush them away since they are real and painful. Will there ever be a time when we can live a perfect life, free of mistakes, pain, and sadness?
…Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.
Revelation 21:3-4 (NLT)
Our time in this world is brief when compared to eternity. Yet, only during this time are we able to make the most important decision that determines our eternal fate. In spite of the imperfect lives we all lead, we are given an opportunity to make it right with God, our Creator. If we confess and repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we will have salvation and eternal life. When we pass from this world, we can look forward to an eternity of no tears, sorrow, or pain.
There will be no more bloopers, only a perfect life with God!
