Life Hanging In The Balance (Psalms 119:109)

One of my favorite childhood games was Operation. Most are familiar with this classic game. It was thrilling and unnerving to “operate” on my patient because his life would hang in the balance of my actions. One errant or careless move and the patient was crippled or died! Now that I am a physician, I cannot say this game motivated me to pursue my career. However, it did reinforce the notion that all physicians are involved in life and death decisions and spend many years training to ensure that the lives of their patients are not hanging in balance because of their carelessness or neglect.

What about my spiritual life? Am I aware of the spiritual warfare that rages around me at every moment, placing me in innumerable precarious situations? Do I know that my life constantly hangs in balance? We are only able to experience the physical world with our senses but there is a spiritual realm in which we all exist in but cannot see. Angels are continually battling demons who seek to lure us into temptation and sin. How can I protect myself?

My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions.

Psalms 119:109 (NLT)

I must train and immerse myself in obeying God’s Word that He has recorded in the Bible. One errant or careless move can only be corrected by the intervention of God’s grace and mercy in my life. The more I obey His instructions, the less susceptible I will be to succumbing to the temptations of Satan. God promises to rescue me from the precipice of sin if I obey and trust Him.

Amen!

Love and trust in the Lord; seek His will in your life.
