“Not PC!” (Joel 2:32)

Gone With the Wind.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

My Fair Lady.

These are just a few great American classic movies and also great examples of political incorrectness. From racist stereotypes to misogynistic behavior, many scenes from these movies are cringe-worthy when viewed through the lens of current social mores, eliciting the bellicose outcry, “Not PC!”

Political correctness.

It is the clarion call of social media and the workplace. It is the avoidance of any language or behavior that excludes, marginalizes, or discriminates any group of people. Although it is usually applied to sex, race, and religion, it has expanded to envelop any group of people that is viewed as disenfranchised. Clearly there are no limits to what falls under the umbrella of PC, even it is inherently contradictory. Seeking to be completely inclusive, supporters of political correctness ironically excludes groups that do not share their like views.

The Bible is a frequent target of the PC police. Like the stereotypes portrayed in some of the classic movies, critics have leveled the same charges against it that have been hurled against these movies. There is no place for the Bible in this modern society. The Bible is not PC!

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved…

Joel 2:32 (ESV)

Is the Bible politically correct?

Absolutely! It is the most inclusive Book ever written. From the very first verses, God extended His grace and mercy to all who call upon His Name. It was man that turned his back on the limitless blessings of God, choosing his path rather than obeying God. Instead of realizing his sin, man has devised fanciful and imaginative reasons to explain his faults and failings. It is a genetic disease; it is the fault of our families; it is the environment. Man has placed the blame for his sins on everyone and everything else except where it truly belongs-himself. Man chose to place his needs and desires over God’s. Man chose to make himself a god. The result is a world filled with people who do exclude, marginalize and discriminate against others. The world is not PC because man is not PC.

What hope is there for any of us? God has provided the answer. If we confess and repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we can change this world and begin the road to redemption and restore the broken relationship between God and man. There are no limits to the love, grace, and mercy of God through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Not PC? That is not the Bible!

Love and trust the Lord; seek His will in your life.
