Privacy Breach (Psalms 91:14-16)

I sifted through the mail and spied the letter from my phone carrier. Junk mail for sure, I thought, but something was different about this letter so reluctantly, I opened it. My instincts were correct. It was another notification of a privacy breach. Hackers had accessed the company’s servers, potentially accessing thousands of user’s sensitive private information, including bank accounts, credit cards, and social security numbers. It was the third notification letter in the past month I had received from various vendors.

Any privacy breach is a serious violation of our privacy and security. However, the real fear is the uncertainty in knowing whether and when this information will ever be used against us. We will not know unless we are the victim of identity fraud and even if that happens, there is no way of knowing the source of the privacy breach.

Uncertainty haunts us. Ever since Adam and Eve, sin has injected uncertainty into our lives. We do not know when some secret or event from our past will come to light and embarrass or humiliate us. We are wary of sharing intimate information about ourselves with others since we do not know if it will ever be used against us. We are even uncertain about our relationship with God. Does God really cause all things to work together for good? Is He really in control of a world that is riddled with privacy breaches?

The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

Psalms 91:14-16 (NLT)

God has the solution for our uncertainty. He will rescue and protect those who trust and love Him and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. God reassures us that He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. There is never uncertainty when we place our trust in Him.

Love and trust in the Lord; seek His will in your life.
