Tango (Psalms 71:18)

It was already 10PM but the crowd was only beginning to trickle into the capacious hall. We were greeted by an orchestra that played the familiar strains of the haunting melodies that we had been surrounded with since we arrived in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires. It was our first visit to an Argentinian Tango dance hall and my wife and I were excited to experience the heart of Argentinian culture. Although there are many wonderful examples of the Tango available on social media sites, perhaps one of the most familiar is the iconic scene in the movie, starring Al Pacino, “Scent of a Woman.”

One aspect of the Tango that I find very appealing, especially as my aging aching body constantly reminds me, is that the dance can be as athletic or as slow as the couple desires, making it an ideal dance for all ages to enjoy. In the dance hall, we saw many older couples slowly going through the same moves that much younger couples were doing at twice the pace, but the message was the same. It was an experience to be enjoyed and shared by everyone. As Al Pacino whimsically stated, “That’s what makes the Tango so great. If you make a mistake, get all tangled up, you just Tango on!”

Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Psalms 71:18 (NLT)

We all age and our strength and abilities gradually diminish. However, in our spiritual walk with God, our ability to serve God is never hindered by our physical limitations. As long as we are mentally competent, God will allow us to use every aspect of our being to serve Him, proclaiming His power, grace, and mercy to the next generation. There are no mistakes with God. If we feel our physical limitations are slowing us down, tangling us up, God will untangle us and guide us to the perfect way to serve Him with a willing heart.

Love and trust in the Lord; seek His will in your life.
