Called Out..Twice! (Isaiah 65:1)

“Jake…Martin…Smith!”

When Jake’s mother wanted to get his attention, she called him out using his first, middle, and last name, dramatically pausing after pronouncing each name! That sounded familiar! My mother did the same thing, too many times than I would like to remember. In fact, as I write this, I am getting an uncomfortable sensation in my belly as I recall those tongue lashings.

What about God? When God wants to get our attention, He calls out our name…twice!

But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Genesis 22:11 (ESV)

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.”

Genesis 46:2 (ESV)

When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Exodus 3:4 (ESV)

And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”

1 Samuel 3:10 (ESV)

But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things…”

Luke 10:41 (ESV)

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat…”

Luke 22:31 (ESV)

And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

Acts 9:4 (ESV)

In the cacophony of this modern age, can we still hear God calling out to us? Do we incline our hearts and minds to hear His voice or is it crowded out by the often contradictory postings of social media? Are we willing to listen or is it drowned in the din of voices of self-proclaimed pundits who extol the supremacy of mankind and ignore the One who created them?

I was ready to be sought by those who did not ask for me; I was ready to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am…”

Isaiah 65:1 (ESV)

God still speaks directly to us, but are we willing to listen? God calls out to His Creation, twice. “Here I am, here I am.”

Won’t you respond to His calling? Forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and salvation await all who answer His call.

Amen!

Love and trust the Lord; seek His will in your life.
