Already Tested (Proverbs 30:5)

All residents in the United States, regardless of their medical specialty, are required to take an annual in-service examination. This exam assesses the academic progress of each resident and compares their scores, on a percentile basis, with all other residents in the country. Thus all residents and program directors can receive feedback on how effectively each resident is learning and progressing during their training. I had done well in my first two in-service examinations as a resident. However, in my third year I was informed that there was a change in the format. My usual preparations may not be adequate to prepare me, unlike previous years. I had a great deal of anxiety as I took the examination that year. Thankfully the changes were not too drastic and I did well. I also passed along this information to the incoming residents, who were grateful so they could better prepare for their examination.

I wish someone could have taken this new in-service examination and reassure me in the same way I did for the new residents. What if every new undertaking we entered into, we were reassured that it had already been successfully completed? Wouldn’t that instill a sense of confidence within us? This is what God has done to reassure us in our spiritual walk. We have confidence to abide in Him because He has proven His trustworthiness. Every word that God has spoken has been tested to protect and reassure us.

Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭30‬:‭5‬ (‭NASB)

How does God test His Word?

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (NASB)

When we face the trials and tribulations of life, we can have confidence that God will successfully guide us through His mercy and grace. Jesus Christ has already taken the test for us, proving that His Word is our shield and guide. Place your trust and faith in Jesus Christ, our High Priest who continually intervenes on our behalf.

Love and trust in the Lord; seek His will in your life.
