“I read the entire Bible, now what?”
I was listening to my daughter give her testimony of faith as she was about to undergo water baptism with her college Christian fellowship. It was a moving declaration and although I knew most of the events which she discussed, I had never heard them strung together in a cohesive narrative that chronicled her spiritual journey. One point she made was this statement cited above. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was 11 years old and read the Bible everyday. A few years later, I was pleased when she told me she read the entire Bible, something many Christians do not accomplish. I did not know that she felt unfulfilled.
Some people have told me that their daily Bible reading consists of a calendar or app that posts a selected Bible verse. This is a wonderful beginning but only a start. Berry picking the Bible for verses is exactly that, morsels of a greater and more fulfilling and complete meal. We need the entire Word of God to sustain us. If I was ill and knew that a certain medication would cure me, wouldn’t I want to take all of it? Most certainly. I would not willingly choose to take less. Why would I do the same with reading the Bible?
Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.

On her spiritual path, my daughter learned that it was not simply reading the Bible, it was applying God’s Word to her life. It was recognizing that the entire Bible is a living and breathing guide, not merely pithy and heart warming phrases. As God opened her eyes to show her how the Bible is a practical instruction for her life, she was able to grow in her faith, one that led to a recommitment of her life to Jesus Christ and her eventual baptism.
I thank God for giving us His Words of instruction. May God bless all who search the Bible for the Truth to live one’s life.
