No Blind Dates (Acts 3:22-26)

I was recently sharing the story with my staff of how I met my wife on a blind date in 1996. After telling the story and how it led to our marriage, I asked them, “Have any of you ever been on a blind date?” Three of my staff are in their twenties and early thirties and all shook their heads. “With the internet and social media, you always know what the person will look like before you actually meet them.”

I realized that the concept of blind dates is vanishingly rare in this digital age, and why not? Many people would not meet a total stranger until they previewed them on an online social media site. If I was now single and currently dating, I probably would not agree to a blind date. 

In 1996, the internet was just beginning to be adopted, social media sites did not exist, and emails were embryonic, often limited to corporate intranets. Unless someone had a photograph of a person, it was left to the communication skills of the person making the introduction to paint an accurate representation of the potential future encounter.

No living person has ever seen Jesus Christ. Like a blind date, how can one place their trust in someone whom they have never met? For a blind date, we are dependent upon the communication skills of the person to make the introduction. The better the communicator, the more confident we will be that the person we meet will be accurately represented. What better person to communicate who Jesus Christ is than God Himself?

“Moses said, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your own people. Listen carefully to everything he tells you.’ Then Moses said, ‘Anyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from God’s people.’ “Starting with Samuel, every prophet spoke about what is happening today. You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’ When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.”

Acts 3:22-26 (NLT)

God has communicated with us. He has given us His Bible. In it is recorded thousands of years of prophecies proclaiming that Jesus Christ will be born on this earth, live a sinless life, and be tortured to death by Crucifixion on the Cross. The Bible also records that after three days in the grave, Jesus would be resurrected, proving that He is God and forever vanquishing death. 

When you confess and repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, it is not a blind date with destiny. We know exactly who Jesus is because God revealed Him to us thousands of years ago. 

It is not a blind date but an eternal date of your destiny and salvation.
