“He Leapt!” (Luke 1:41)

It was December 23rd, 2002. In the midst of our preparations for Christmas, my wife and I received the news from her amniocentesis. Our unborn son had Down syndrome. We were devastated. Confused. Upset. Angry. We did not know what to do. We prayed together, asking God to give us wisdom and to increase our faith to deal with the news. A few days later, my wife confided in me.

“I prayed to God to give me direction and at that very moment, our son lept in my womb! It was the first time it happened!”

We both agreed it was confirmation that God was reassuring us that everything would be fine. Nearly eighteen years later, we can rejoice in God’s promises and faithfulness to our family. Our son is a healthy young man who loves Jesus Christ and is blessed with many friends, teachers, and mentors. We are a family, united in faith through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.

And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:41 (NKJV)

Thousands of years ago, God’s promise and faithfulness to another couple was recorded in the Bible by Dr. Luke. When Mary, the mother of Jesus, visited her cousin, Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist, the baby leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In that moment, she received divine confirmation that the child she was carrying was chosen by God to prepare the way of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Nearly twenty years ago, God dramatically answered our prayers and blessed us with our son. He tested and grew our faith during those difficult months of pregnancy and uncertainty. Now we can look back and see that Got was definitely in control. Even when our faith faltered, His promise of blessings was steadfast.

A baby that leapt in the womb of Elizabeth and my wife-what a beautiful confirmation of God’s promises to answer the prayers of His children!

Love and trust the Lord; seek His will in your life.
