Side Effects Include…. (Psalms 119:105)

“Side effects include nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, palpitations, loss of consciousness. If you are taking beta blockers or calcium channel blockers, the risk of side effects are potentially increased. In rare cases, loss of consciousness and death may ensue. If these symptoms continue, contact your physician and go to the nearest emergency room.”

Although this warning is a fictional compilation of other black box warnings, the message still rings true. Black box warnings, required by law, are recited at the end of all pharmaceutical advertisements and placed as package inserts with all medications. The potential side effects must be divulged to the unsuspecting public.  In many audio warnings, the voiceover is sped up so that the morose recitation can be completed within the allotted time. Most, including myself, tune out during these few seconds, but a few words like death and coma do occasionally catch our attention!

I wonder what kind of black box warning could be attached to the Bible? It is more powerful than any prescription medication, more potent than any treatment. It will never wear off nor will we grow resistant to it. All we need to do is to continue to use it! It is not an inert pill or concocted solution. It is the living Word of God!

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalms 119:105 (KJV)

A black box warning for the Bible? Side effects include a peace that surpasses all understanding, the unimaginable riches of God’s grace, and exceedingly abundant power through His Holy Spirit. All we need to do is confess and repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Yes, Lord! Give me your prescription!

Love and trust the Lord; seek His will in your life.
