Christmas Card Wall (Hebrews 12:1)

Every December, the Christmas cards from friends and family begin to arrive. Several years ago, we desired to have a creative way to showcase these cards and also view them throughout the year. Our kitchen now has a wall devoted to these cards. This Christmas card wall is displayed the entire year and frequently serves as a focal point of discussion with our family and with friends who visit. Many of the cards are from fellow believers in Jesus Christ. As we daily survey the cards, fond memories of shared spiritual journeys are recollected. At every meal, we are surrounded by a great group of witnesses for Jesus Christ!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…

Hebrews 12:1 (ESV)

In this passage, the writer of Hebrews had just completed a magnificent list of some of the great Saints of the Old Testament Bible, a list he honors as a great cloud of witnesses. He reminds us that the examples of their faith should serve to encourage us in our daily walk with God.

Our Christmas card wall is our great cloud of witnesses. It reminds us to pray for them and encourages us of past trials and God’s faithfulness during the most difficult times. If a picture is worth a thousand words, our Christmas card wall is a library of faith!

Praise God!
